at 7:30 pm, as we gather at the Arts and Literature Laboratory to witness a musical extravaganza.

Prepare to be dazzled by the high-octane prowess of the LunART Chamber Music Collective, challenging the traditional boundaries of the classical canon. We proudly champion the finest new music crafted by visionary women composers. With a plethora of world and U.S. premieres to our name, our ensemble passionately performs works that embody the essence of today's musical innovation while paying homage to the overlooked gems of long-established composers who paved the way for women in music.

This evening will witness the world premiere of Lily of the Valley by Patricia Lopes, and the soul-stirring Exilios, masterfully woven by the brilliant Gabriela Ortiz. Both pieces, composed for flute and string quartet, will transport you to a realm of pure sonic enchantment.

In partnership with the International Alliance for Women in Music, LunART is thrilled to introduce Madison audiences to two extraordinary works that exemplify the power of women's voices. The audience will enjoy A Strange Magic, a quartet composed by Judith Lang Zaimont, and Flashpoint by Linda Dusman, a hauntingly evocative solo piece for the bass flute.

Iva Ugrcic, flute

Dr. Iva Ugrcic (she/her) is one of the most exciting and adventurous flutists in the international pantheon. Described as “a natural star on her instrument,” Dr. Ugrcic has been featured as a solo artist as well as a chamber and orchestral musician, performing throughout Europe, and North and South America. Named the "Musician of the Year for 2018" by the Well-Tempered Ear, Dr. Ugrčić is a musician who has worn many hats throughout her professional career: flutist, educator, activist, executive and artistic director, entrepreneur, freelance musician and recording artist, among others.

After receiving the prestigious Albert Roussel Scholarship, Iva moved to Paris where she finished her master’s degree. In 2017, Iva finished her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UW-Madison as a recipient of a Paul Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Fellowship. Since then, Iva won the Shain Irving Competition, multiple concerto competitions, and received the James Smith Orchestra Award for excellency and leadership. Additionally, she won the C.R.E.A.T.E. Project Competition at the 46th National Flute Association (NFA) Convention, was awarded First Prize award from The American Prize, Second Prize at the UW Arts Business Competition, Silver Medal at the International Vienna Competition, and was a finalist for the Pro Musicis International Award in NYC. In addition to her position as the Founder and CEO/Artictic Director of LunART, Dr. Ugrcic currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Rural Musicians Forum, is a member of the Career & Artistic Development Committee and chair of the C.R.E.A.T.E. Project Competition of the National Flute Association, and holds the position of Board Liaison & Strategic Initiatives role at Overture Center for the Arts.

Dawn Wohn, violin

Praised as having "warmth and crystal-clear tone" by Whole Note Magazine, violinist Dawn Dongeun Wohn has performed in concert halls across five continents as diverse as Carnegie Hall, Taiwan’s National Theater to Radio City Music Hall. As a soloist, she has performed with orchestras for such as the Korean Broadcasting Symphony and the Aspen Conducting Orchestra. Her debut album Perspectives, featuring works by female composers was featured by the New York Times, Spotify and Apple Music and was chosen as one of WQXR’s best albums of the year.
Committed to teaching the next generation of violinists, she is currently on faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Mead Witter School of Music and teaches at Rocky Ridge Music Festival during the summers. Previously, she was String Chair and Associate Professor of Violin at Ohio University. Her second album of works by women will be released by Delos in fall 2023.

Isabella Lippi, violin

Violinist Isabella Lippi, called “A standout, even among virtuosos," has performed in numerous
recitals and appeared as guest soloist with orchestras in the United States, Mexico, Europe and the Far East. She has performed with Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, New Orleans Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the Mexico City Philharmonic, the San Diego Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Vermont Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica de Bilbao of Spain, and the Moscow Symphony.

Lippi has won numerous competitions and awards including the St. Louis Symphony Young Artist Competition, First Place in the Young Musicians Foundation National Debut Competition, Highest Honors in the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Talent Search, the Henryk Szerying International Competition, and the Illinois Young Performers Competition.

In addition to her work as a soloist, Ms. Lippi has participated in numerous chamber music festivals including those of Santa Fe, La Jolla, Mainly Mozart and the Aspen Music Festival. She was Concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony from 1999-2002 and is currently Concertmaster of the Elgin Symphony. She is featured on a CD on the Koch International label which contains complete works for violin and piano and the solo works by the late composer, Miklos Rozsa.

Marie Pauls, viola

Marie Pauls is a versatile freelance musician, residing in Madison, WI. Classically trained from the age of 3, she can be seen performing in venues ranging from the Overture Center to local wineries. She earned both the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a full scholarship to study with Professor Sally Chisholm. Marie is a founding member of Arbor Ensemble, a classical chamber music group dedicated to the promotion of women composers. A seasoned orchestral musician, she is a member of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and formerly held principal viola positions in the Illinois Valley and Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestras. Beyond the classical realm, she performs with the acoustic rock group Evan Riley Band, with whom she has recorded three original albums. As a committed string educator, she maintains a private studio and has taught at the American Suzuki Institute.

Lindsey Crabb, cello

Lindsey Crabb is a member of the Willy Street Chamber Players and the Madison Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with other Madison area groups such as Clocks in Motion, the Pro Arte Quartet, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and Theatre LILA. In addition to performing, she is an active educator, maintaining a private studio of students of all ages and levels. Lindsey holds degrees from Lawrence University and the Eastman School of Music, and she received her doctoral degree in cello performance at UW-Madison with Uri Vardi where she was a member of the Hunt Quartet.
